A percutaneous vacuum-assisted biopsy device (Mammotome) is commonly used for the initial approach to diagnosis and treatment o f benign breast lesions, and its indication has recently broader. Mammotome biopsy is applied not only to a single tumor but also multiple bilateral lesions. We report our experience o f Mammotome biopsy to multiple bilateral breast lesions in patients younger than 35 years old. We conducted a retrospective analysis 197 cases o f Mammotome biopsy (total 76 patients). All patients had multiple bilateral benign breast lesions. The mean age o f the patients was 27 years old (17-35 years old). The mean size o f lesions was 1.4 cm (0.5-5.0 cm). The mean number o f lesions was 2.5. There was no remnant tumor after Mammotome biopsy at 1 week and 6 months follow-up. However, there were postoperative complications including bruise (22.4%), hematoma (10.5% ), postoperative pain (6.6%) and skin dimpling (1.3%). Ultrasonogram at 6 months followup showed that 19 patients had residual tumors. Among them, 12 patients underwent additional Mammotome or excisional biopsy, and 7 patients were under observation. Mammotome biopsy is an effective management for multiple bilateral benign breast lesions with high accuracy and low complication.
